THE role women have played in cricket across Calderdale will be told at an exhibition.
“From Charladies to Chairladies” examines the roles that wives, mothers and girlfriends have had over the decades.

The exhibition has been designed and researched by the Cricket Heritage Project team at Huddersfield University.

“The story of women and local cricket is fascinating,” said project leader Dr Peter Davies.

“In the early days all you see and read about is men. But as the 20th century moved on, women became more fundamental to local cricket clubs.”

The exhibition starts in the era when women were mainly tea ladies and finishes in the 21st century where many clubs have female committee members.

Women have also been scorers, umpires and fund-raisers, and have formed their own ladies committees and even female teams.

The exhibition opens at 7pm on May 24, at Halifax Swimming Pool and runs until late summer.
