The pupils were put through their paces.

Children at St John’s CE Primary Academy, Clifton were put through their paces last week by ex-members of the Royal Marines.

The academy hosted a Military Activity Day for its pupils in their first week back after lockdown.

The idea was to arrange something special for the children to do with their friends in a safe environment that was both fun, an opportunity to let off steam with their classmates but also to kick start a fitness focus in school.

PE and sports coordinator, Emma Green, explained that teachers had been concerned about the lack of opportunity the children had had during lockdown to exercise.

Emma said: “We knew the children would enjoy the Military Day, working with the Royal Marines doing a wide range of activities including an obstacle course and problem solving tasks, and that it would help to develop both their mental and physical health.

“The fact that it was rainy and extremely muddy added even more to their enjoyment.

“Fun in the open air with their friends!”
