Halifax Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents its popular Annual Concert tonight March 11 (7.45pm start) at All Saints Church Hall, Godfrey Road, Skircoat Green.
The concert will include excerpts from that delightful comic opera Iolanthe, where the Peers and Arcadian Fairies cause glorious mayhem in the House of Lords.
Iolanthe (alternatively known as The Peer and the Peri) is the Society’s annual show this year and as ever, will be performed across a week at Halifax Playhouse in November.
It includes the popular songs If You Go In You’re Sure To Win and Loudly Let The Trumpet Bray.
The concert will also feature favourites from The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado, Utopia Limited - the penultimate collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan, plus a full rendition of the short operetta Trial by Jury which was the first of the pair’s regular collaboration and also their only work that exists entirely without spoken dialogue.
Admission is free, there are refreshments and there will be a retiring collection. All are welcome.
