Centre Ben Heaton has said Halifax need to remain 'positive' in the aftermath of Sunday's 17-12 loss to Batley.

Fax lost their second game in four Championship starts against the Bulldogs, despite manufacturing significantly more scoring chances than their visitors.

Heaton, making his second appearance of the season after returning to the side in the win at Workington, was critical of aspects of his team’s performance, but insisted they will improve ahead of Sunday’s trip to London (3.0).

“At Workington, the team effort was great but at the weekend we weren’t quite there,” said Heaton.

“We weren’t smart enough and we played into their hands a little bit.

“We didn’t want to get in a dogfight with them, but we did and it worked to their advantage not ours.

“That’s what they do, but it’s difficult to stop them sometimes.

“We let them back in the game at 8-6 at half time; they thrive off stuff like that.

“We were a bit panicky at 14-12 and 16-12 down; our end of sets weren’t great and we were making breaks but not finishing them.

“We came up with errors or turned the ball over too easily when we needed to compose ourselves, build some pressure.

“We have a few areas we need to address with the ball, but we’ll get better.

“It’s early in the season and it will click together.

“We need to be positive and look forward to the next game at London.”
