Riverside make a splash in two events
Riverside School at Hebden Bridge is celebrating a double success at cross country and sports hall athletic.
There was an impressive turnout of 44 pupils, from years three to six, for the HX7 cross country competition at Stubbs Field, Mytholmroyd last Thursday.
On a cold, sunny afternoon, they returned with a great array of medals. Boys and girls in every year group bar one were first, second or third.
Pupils who finished in the top five will represent the HX7 schools partnership in Halifax in February and the winning teams of four in each year go to the Calderdale finals.
The event was organised by Mary Smith and Tracy Nelson and other schools to attend were Burnley Rd, Scout Rd, Cragg Vale and Luddenden Dene.
The runners were following up success for year five and six pupils in the HX7 sports hall competition.
Training at the after school club paid dividends as they beat five other primary schools after two hours of running, jumping and throwing.
Jackie Scarf, the school’s PE coordinator, said: ‘This is the third year running we have gone through to the Calderdale finals.
“Everyone worked so hard to win their gold medal - it was a real team performance.”
