RED STAR are the champions - and they still have five games to play.
They demolished the title holders to claim their crown in style.
Manager Matt Gill said it was more a relief to get the title with games still to play.
“It’s especially good to win it against Elland who were champions last year.
“We’ve got a good squad and they have played great. Now we can enjoy the rest of the games and we’ve still got the cup to go,” he said.
Red Star have reached the semi-final of the Halifax AFL Challenge Cup and are dreaming of the double.
“It’s important. We want that double. The job’s not done yet,” said Red Star’s Liam Barrett.
“We want to win all the rest of the games too,” he said.
First up was last night against bottom club Halifax Irish Centre followed by Stump Cross on Saturday - the only team to have beaten Red Star in the league this season.
In a fierce wind at Elland Recreation Ground Red Star were in control for most of the match.
Nick Spence gave them the lead in the first half when he headed in a ball from Simon Reekie.
There was no further score before the break, but early in the second half Reekie was there to put away a cross from Alex Austin.
Reekie and Johnny Collins were outstanding for Star in midfield and goalkeeper Lee Williams turned on the style too near the end.
First he saved a penalty and then dived at the feet of the Elland player to save the rebound.
Three minutes from the end Annis Khalifa put the icing on the cake for Star with a fine long range shot which left the Elland keeper little chance.
