Pigeon results - Cheltenham race

Adrian and Rowan Leach’s yearling hen was a decisive winner of last Saturday’s Luddenden Foot Homing Society race from Cheltenham.

She was three and a half minutes in front of her pool winning loft-mate as the lads dominated the result having the fifth home as well.

A total of 320 birds entered by 17 members were released at 7.40am into a Westerly wind and the winner flew 127.5 miles in just under two hours and 28 minutes.

It was a good day for Hebden Bridge fliers with Pecket Well’s Charlie and Clive Roberts taking third spot with a yearling cock which won the Pennine Valleys Federation as a young bird.

The Leach’s hen will also top the PVF against 1,600 birds sent by the members of eight clubs. Brian Shepherd of Trimmingham was fourth and Nigel Poyser and Mark Smith took the East Section pools in ninth.

l TWELVE members of Todmorden Homing Society sent a near record 402 birds at Cheltenham for last week’s race.

Liberated at 7.30am in an effort to avoid the forecasted incoming rain, the light west wind ensured a fairly easy race.

First to clock were Leach Bros, sending for the first time with the Todmorden club this season, their bird flying 127 miles to Hardcastle Crags in 144 minutes. Brian and Sandra Fisher took the second and third places.
