Calder Valley runners make their mark in weekend races

It was an action packed weekend of sterling performances by Calder Valley Fell Runners members.

There were a combination of wins, course records and podium finishes from The Yorkshireman and The Lap.

The Yorkshireman has two sections, a full and half marathon. There is also a category for pairs too.

Cass Chisholm put in a sensational performance at The Lap smashing the course record and finishing sixth overall in a time of 9 hours and 3 minutes, a huge lead on Helen Pike in second place.

142 runners completed the 47 mile route round Lake Windermere with 2,500m of ascent.

This past Sunday saw the annual Yorkshireman full and half marathon which sets off from Haworth.

In the full Yorkshireman solo category there were 87 runners and Calder Valley had the following finishers: Claire Hanson finished third woman in 30th overall in 4 hours 20 minutes, Stella Chrisanthou 34th and third vet 40 in a time of 4 hours 57 minutes, Linda Cooper 51st in a time of 5 hours 23 minutes, Harley Beecroft 71st in 6 hours 13 minutes.

In the Yorkshireman full marathon pairs category there were three pairs who completed the 26 mile undulating course over rough terrain.

These were the following: third place were Ben Cliff and Iain Conley in a time of 4 hours 34 minutes, 10th place Kate Pope and Gloria Ayuso in 5 hours 36, 20th place Carolyn Shinwell and Liz Lloyd 6 hours 13 minutes.

The half marathon Yorkshireman saw plenty of solid performances by Calder Valley members and a cracking win by Ed Hyland in a highly impressive time of 1hr 43 minutes, only seven minutes off current record holder and Calder Valley member Ben Mounsey, which was set in 2009.

Overall 160 runners completed this stunning course and they were the following: a top ten finish for John Lloyd and second vet 40 in seventh place with a time of 1 hour 53 minutes, Toby Cotterill 25th place in 2 hours 14 minutes, Darren Earnshaw 26th place in 2 hours 14 minutes, Rebecca Alathoor 61st place in 2 hours 39 minutes, Mark Lovick 78th place in 2 hours 51 minutes, Andrew Smith 79th place 2 hours 51 minutes, Gill Dickson 89th place in 3 hours, Christina Turner 90th place in 3 hours, Diane Wright 96th place in 3 hours 1 minute.
