It was points rather than times which mattered most for the Todmorden Harriers runners among the 482 starters in Sunday’s Liversedge Half Marathon.
The hilly 13.1 mile test is a counter in Harriers’ Road Championship.
Jon Wright and Paul Brannigan ran a sensible and tactical first half of the race and were just inside the top 10 with six miles remaining.
Brannigan faded but Wright worked his way through the field to come third overall, laying another brick in the foundations of his London Marathon preparations.
Andrew Bibby produced a fine performance to finish second in the aged 60-64 category.
Mel Blackhurst, Catherine Elvin and Moyra Parfitt finished ninth, 22nd and 119th in the ladies’ race with Blackhurst third in her age category.
She entered the home straight level with Tod’s Richard Butterwick, despite having raced in the Windy Hill fell race the day before, but Butterwick had opened a nine second gap by the finish line.
Results: 3, Jon Wright; 113, Richard Butterwick; 114 Melanie Blackhurst; 130 Paul Brannigan; 149 Andrew Bibby; 187 Catherine Elvin; 221 Kevin Coughlan; 264 Joseph Courtney; 396 Peter Ehrhardt; 417 Nic Corrigan; 450 Moyra Parfitt.
