World record for Max, 15

Halifax Harriers' Max Burgin has smashed his own world record 800 metres time for a 15-year-old.

Max, of Well Head, Halifax, set his new best of 1:47:5 on Saturday evening after being invited to run against more senior athletes at a British Milers Club event in Manchester.

He surged clear in the last 50 metres and is the fastest 15 year old at the distance ever by an amazing two seconds.

The time also made him the new British under 17 record holder.

Max was running just eight days before his 16th birthday and he still managed to fit in another race before starting his GCSEs today at Crossley Heath School, winning the Yorkshire under 17 1,500 metres title yesterday.

His achievement has been noticed world wide with Athletics Weekly running an article and the likes of Paula Radcliffe tweeting about it.

Radcliffe, the fastest women’s marathon runner in history and a three times winner of the London and New York Marathons, passed her own judgement on Max’s ‘hot’ performance.

She posted two fire emojis alongside the news of Max’s lightning run on her twitter account.
