Sykes Cup holders Barkisland are out of this year’s competition, beaten by five runs at home to Shepley yesterday.
The visitors’ 252 for eight total proved just out of reach in an exciting finish to the second round tie.
A close match was expected between the sides lying third and fourth in the Huddersfield League’s top flight and so it proved.
Tom Denton’s 76 and Josh Ardron’s unbeaten 75 helped the visitors post a decent score but home skipper Darren Robinson’s five for 51 kept his side in it.
Jamie Summerscales hit 77 at the top of the home order. Alex Scholefield (54) and Luke Bridges (33) helped Barkisland get close but it was Shepley who moved through to the quarter finals.
Illingworth were no match for division-higher visitors Rawdon in their last appearance in the Waddilove Cup.
The Jammy Green men, who are switching from the Aire/Wharfe League to the Halifax League next season, were bowled out for 106. Luke Brooksby top scored with 35.
Rawdon wrapped up victory for the loss of only one wicket.
Todmorden have only two teams below them in the Lancashire League after a 79-run defeat at home to second-placed Nelson yesterday.
The Centre Vale men were batted out of the contest in the first half as South African Ryan Bailey hit 126 not out from 133 balls.
The professional put on 115 for the second wicket with opener Russell Bradley (61) and 68 for the fourth wicket with Harrison Phelan (46) as Nelson rattled up 278 for four.
When Todmorden slumped to 34 for four, with Aussie Ashton Turner (9) failing again, it was left to Ben Sutcliffe to help restore some respectability.
Sutcliffe made 75 not out from 127 balls, adding 70 with skipper Andrew Sutcliffe (24) and then 95 with Freddie Priestley (55 no), who hit his maiden senior half century.
However, Tod never looked like challenging the visitors’ score and finished on 199 for five.
Walsden completed a weekend double when they beat old rivals Littleborough by one wicket in a thrilling National Club Championship match.
Hosts Littleborough made 196 off their 45 overs with ex-Lancashire and England player Chris Schofield making 72.
Joe Gale (62) and Jake Hooson (23) put on 74 for Walsden’s first wicket but the visitors then slumped to 115 for five.
Stevie Barker, who had earlier taken four for 32, proved Walsden’s match winner with 51 not out, last man Danny Brown (3 no) helping him clinch victory with two balls to spare.
