Sunday League: Hollins boss Parker 'stunned' after Ryburn defeat

“It absolutely stunned me,” he said. “We were very poor.

“Ryburn weren’t too bad, but we never got our tackles in, we never backed each other up.

“It was an onslaught for 45 minutes. We never got going.

“They scored early on, then we equalised, but they scored again straight away, then made it 3-1.

“For the second-half we’d talked about keeping it tight for the first five minutes, but within 30 seconds they’d scored again.

“I can’t put it into words how angry I was. It was just one of those days where all 11 players played poorly, and there’s not a lot you can do about it.”

In the County Sunday Cup, Siddal Place produced a surprise result by beating Premier Division leaders Feathers 3-1.

Waiters Arms were knocked out of the County Sunday Cup on penalties after a 5-5 draw at Bradford Premier Division side Station FC.

Despite having only nine men to start with, Waiters put up what boss Adam Fenton described as the most spirited performance he had ever seen from his team.

They managed to make it 10 men with the late arrival of Lee Wood after 15 minutes and he made an instant impact, creating the first two goals.

The first was a fine strike from Ashton Richardson and the second was a good finish from Kev Talbot from Wood’s flick on.

Waiters defended resolutely until the break with Dan Crosland making his debut winning the aerial battles.

Station pulled one back five minutes into the second half but Waiters didn’t rattle and Richardson made it 3-1 after a good run from Helliwell.

Waiters’ Dean Park then left the field with a bad back injury leaving them with nine men again and the pressure began to tell as Station pulled another back.

Just after Waiters’ Ethan Daly had made two fine stops he cleared upfield where Helliwell raced clear and played a one-two with Wood before slotting home with 15 minutes to go.

Then Waiters made it 5-2 with a Talbot corner landing on the head of Wood despite him been the only Waiters player in the box.

But Station produced a dramatic fightback, drawing level with the last kick of the game to take the match to penalties.

Every penalty was scored up to 9-8 to Station, with Daly the last to step up, but his spot kick was saved by his opposite number to send Station through.

Waiters boss Fenton said: “I cannot praise the lads enough for the effort and commitment they put in.

“If we’d had a full complement of players we’d have got a more positive result I’m sure, but now we can concentrate on the league and domestic cups and hopefully we can take this performance as a benchmark.

“Good luck to Station in the next round. Whether you are playing against nine or 11, to come from three goals down with 10 minutes to go deserves credit.”

In the Sunday Trophy, King Cross Park beat Beldon Oddies Reserves 8-4, Halifax Rangers lost 9-0 at home to Hampsthwaite United, FC Panda Reserves lost 2-1 at Bramham Sunday.

FC Panda dominated from the off and spurned plenty of chances.

A slip by centre half Usman Khan let in Bramham to score, but Panda replied shortly before half-time when a five-man move was completed by Irfan Afzal finishing smartly into bottom corner.

Panda continued to dicatet play after the restart, but were knocked out by a bizarre goal when the Bramham keeper’s big punt upfield went over the Panda keeper.

In Division One, Old Pond lost 4-2 at home to Thrum Hall, despite starting brightly, using the slope to their advantage and opening the scoring after 16 minutes through Greg Roper.

Both teams had chances to score through the first half but a mixture of solid defending and wasteful shooting kept the score down.

That was until the 41st minute when Hall drew level. Some good work down the left saw a Richard Needham cross met with some acrobatics from Yevhen Balika, his attempted overhead kick bouncing in over the keeper.

In the second half, Hall had the advantage of the slope and quickly made it count, with a neat pass from Ash Shepherd to Hall’s dangerman Jonathon Gibson resulting in a goal three minutes after the restart.

Hall got their third 10 minutes later - Gibson was the provider for Jamie Casey to smash an unstoppable shot into the top left corner.

Hall, threatening to run riot, soon made it 4-1. This time Casey crossed for Regan Martin to finish.

Pond created some good chances themselves, but they were unable to trouble Hall until the last minute when some complacency in the back four gifted Roper an opportunity to score his second.

Woodhouse dominated their 3-1 win against triangle from the off, and took the lead after Joe Gale beat three men and found Joe Connor, who curled one past the visitors keeper.

Connor should have scored again from a similar position moments later, while Jonny Sutcliffe should have made it 2-0 just before the break when Connor beat two men but his left footed cross from the byline evaded Sutcliffe, who couldn’t adjust his feet.

Woodhouse continued their pressure and Luke Simmonds stole the ball and found Sutcliffe, whose cannon of a shot hit the post before bouncing out and hitting the keeper to roll over the line.

Bulcock then made a brilliant tackle and found Connor, whose long ball found substitute Dayle Frewin to flick onto Gale, who smashed home for a third. Woodhouse got caught out by a deflected free-kick that hit the wall and straight to a Triangle player to nod home their consolation.

Woodhouse co-manager Jack Naylor said; “It was a very good performance, a lot better than last week.

“We switched off towards the end. Connor and Simmonds put a shift in, and there were a few tired legs.

“Ryan Horan and Higgins were solid at the back for us. Jack Jacques continues to impress and Aaron Lorimer was unlucky not to be on the score sheet.

“It’s a big fixture for us next Sunday and we’re looking forward to it.”
