Hollins Holme must up their game this weekend for a second battle of the heavyweights in eight days with Carrington.
Their opponents drew first blood last Sunday with a 4-0 win at Calder Holmes in the quarter finals of the Halifax Sunday League’s Senior Cup.
That brought Hollins down to earth with a bump after the superb 6-0 home win over Premier leaders Lee Mount the previous week.
The game against Carrington was not as one-sided as the result suggests with the visitors scoring three times in the last 10 minutes.
However, Hollins know they must do better on Sunday when the pair meet in the league at Beechwood Road.
Second-placed Hollins need to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Carrington, who have only played seven Premier fixtures so far.
The first half of last Sunday’s game was tight with little to choose between the teams.
The first clear chance came on the hour mark and it fell to Hollins but Carrington ‘keeper Craig Turnbull pulled off a spectacular point-blank save with his face and the visitors broke swiftly and took the lead with a fine finish from Damian Randall.
Joel Booth’s hosts changed things around to try and press for an equaliser but left more space for Carrington to counter attack.
The game was now very stretched and the next goal was always going to be crucial. Carrington got it with 10 minutes to go when Jay Carney beat his marker and slid the ball home.
Late goals from Randall and Jordan Coduri rubbed salt into Hollins’ wounds.
Royd Club suffered a fifth successive defeat in Division one when beaten 3-0 away to were beaten 3-0 away to third-from-bottom Hens Face.
Royd started well but were twice denied by home ‘keeper Neil Birchall. Hens Face took a 2-0 interval lead through Jake Kennedy and Shaun Byrne and Byrne grabbed his second before Royd missed a couple of late chances.
