Hiley keeps Rangers’ pot boiling

Warley Rangers continued their build-up to the Challenge Cup final with a 3-2 Premier Division win over Shelf United in the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL last night.

A Tom Hiley hat-trick gave them victory, Mark Wheelwright and Dan Marsden replying for a Shelf side playing their seventh league game so far this month.

Warley, who play Midgley at the Shay on May 13, are seventh in the top section and Shelf are ninth.

There were two games in the first division last night. Ryburn United Reserves were 6-1 home winners over AFC Crossleys and Sowerby Bridge drew 2-2 at home to Denholme United.

Lewis Brierley scored four for Invitation Cup finalists Ryburn while Michael Midgley scored twice late on at Walton Street on for Denholme, who had players stuck in traffic and played the whole game with nine men.
