Paul Quinn’s side rounded off a memorable season in superb style yesterday with a 6-2 win at Bridlington Town.

Brighouse, who had clinched the title the previous Saturday, were taking their points tally to a new league best of 101 for the 44-game season.

The visitors to the east coast were avenging their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Bridlington on East Monday, when Jarrod Smalley scored the only goal of the game in added time.

Brighouse had received the trophy on Monday and they showed the quality of true champions on Saturday as they lifted themselves for one last supreme effort.

They were two goals up in 28 minutes in front of 166 fans with Ryan Hall’s 10th-minute penalty followed by a 28th minute effort from Luke Gibson.

Joel Sutton pulled one back from the spot five minutes later but leading scorer Tom Matthews made it 3-1 to the visitors at the break.

Hall’s second four minutes after the restart effectively settled matters and two more from Gibson, after 67 and 83 minutes, with Craig Hogg scoring a second for Brid in between, accounted for the other goals.

Brighouse have finished four points clear of Tadcaster Albion and can now look forward to life in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier next season.
