Brighouse Town remain stuck on 50 points in the NPL’s first division north after a 2-1 home defeat by third-placed Northwich Victoria.
Gary Burnett struck twice in 10 minutes in the middle of the first half for Northwich and Town didn’t get back into it until late on.
Ben Atkinson’s excellent 20-yard volley into the bottom corner gave the visitors an anxious last few minutes but they held out.
It was Brighouse’s third successive defeat and they will look to get back to winning ways at Clitheroe on Tuesday.
Clitheroe are sixth with their play-off hopes seemingly over after a 2-0 loss at Farsley Celtic - their fourth defeat in a row.
