Toby stars in Halifax win

Copley’s Toby Thorpe was the star performer, taking four 45 off 14 overs and following up with 60 at the top of the Halifax order.

Upper Airedale made 169 for eight off their 50 overs with Luddenden Foot’s Isaac Baldwin taking two for 40.

Halifax lost skipper George Hampshire (SBCI) with their total on five but a 99-run stand between Thorpe and Barkisland’s Jake Finch (53) put them on course for a victory which was achieved with 14 overs to spare.

The quarter-final line-ups for the Halifax cup competitions were finalised when Warley won at Copley in the Crossley Shield second teams’ competition.

Warley made 284 for seven and hosts Copley were all out for 228 in reply. Warley are now away to Triangle on Sunday.

Todmorden were hit by rain for the second day running when their home Lancashire League match against Ramsbottom was washed out early in the second half.

Andrew Sutcliffe’s team, who had been unable to take to the pitch at Rawtenstall on Saturday, looked up against it at the time.

The visitors made 254 for two thanks to a superb unbeaten 129 from opener Tom Parton and 77 from pro Daryn Smit, Aussie Michael Neser drawing a rare blank with the ball for the hosts.

Todmorden had reached 17 without loss when play was washed out.
