Record 503 score for Triangle

TRIANGLE blasted a league record 503 for six off 45 overs at home to Southowram and they set the pace after two rounds of Spenser Wilson Halifax League fixtures.

The combination of a small Grassy Bottom ground and a home line-up packed with aggressive batsmen meant trouble for promoted visitors Southowram.

There were centuries for Adam Stocks (111) and Christian Silkstone (107) while Nathan Madden (88), Carl Fletcher (65*) and Chris Metcalf (63) took further toll on the visitors’ attack.

Southowram may have needed plenty of spare balls because the home batsmen hit 45 sixes between them.

The Rams eventually lost by 274 runs, losing their final wicket in the penultimate over, but a couple of their players emerged with some credit, Ian Hall making an unbeaten 102 and Abshar Hussain 57.

Triangle ensured the league’s run count stayed up despite several games being cancelled after Friday’s heavy rain.

The Premier Division match between Copley and Bridgeholme, the middle section games at Blackley and Sowerby Bridge and all five first team games in Division Two failed to start.

While Triangle have maximum points, Thornton, Warley and Shelf Northowram HT are hot on their heels after also registering a second win.

Ross Parr took six for 66 and Andy Hutchinson struck an unbeaten 86 as Thornton eased to a six-wicket home win over Mytholmroyd.

Matthew Scholefield made 71 before being fifth out for Royd with the total on 98. The 10th and final visiting batsman, James Cowens, boosted the visitors’ total with 29.

The outcome was in a little double when Thornton lost their fourth wicket at 79 but Hutchinson quickly settled matters in the company of experienced Mick Shanks (12 no).

Warley followed up their eclipse of champions Booth with a 37 run victory in a 35 overs per side contest at Oxenhope.

Dan Syme’s 84, which boosted the visitors to a competitive 184 for four, proved a match-winning knock as the hosts were restricted to 174 for nine by Cameron van Rensberg’s six for 58.

The new combination at Shelf Northowram HT were set 246 to win by visitors SBCI, who had Simon Wood (75), Thomas Wood (60) and Lewis Firth (48) in good form. Jack Hemblys and Razwan Saghir took four wickets apiece for the hosts.

The Rams appeared to be cruised to victory at 178 for one but opener Dan Cole looked on in dismay as a flurry of wickets fell at the other end to Adam Fawcett and Tyson Illingworth.

At 214 for seven SBCI were back in it but Cole saw the job through with an unbeaten 104, aided by an unbeaten 19 from Harry Reynolds, who finished matters with a six and a four off successive balls.

Booth recovered from their nil points return on the opening day by collecting 11 from a tense four-run home win over Sowerby St Peter’s.

Top three Steve Senior (55), Patrick Thomas (60) and Robert Laycock (41) laid the foundations for a Booth total of 249 for seven but the visitors made a bold bid to chase it down, led by Adam Clarke (60) and Gareth Hall (50).

Bradshaw and Great Horton PC won two contrasting games in Division One.

It was tight at Bradshaw where the hosts produced the better team effort to beat Clayton by three wickets and top the section.

The visitors had the top two individual performers in Paul Artist (67) and Matthew Roe (38 and 3-31) but Adam Spendelow’s unbeaten 42 settled matters.

Great Horton crushed Stones. Opener Amaar Syed hit 112 and Adam Beesley 91 not out in their 279 for five before Matthew Jordan’s seven for 25 sent the Ripponden side packing for 87.
