Birkby given the boot

Birkby Rose Hill have been voted out of the Foster’s Halifax League’s Sunday Section after just one year as members.

Hill had to apply for re-election after failing to fulfil two fixtures.

Their representative to the Sunday Section AGM didn’t turn up until after the vote had taken place, having struggled to find Sowerby Bridge CC.

Club representatives still voted in another Huddersfield League club for next season’s third team competition.

Hall Bower were admitted along with Bridgeholme and Luddenden Foot, who are fielding teams in the section for the first time, and the returning Mytholmroyd.

With Elland and Triangle dropping out during last season, divisions one and two will have eight teams and the third division will have nine teams.

Teams will have to bowl a minimum of 17 overs in an hour or face points deductions while batsmen will have to retire out on reaching 100.

Halifax League clubs can link up with a fellow Halifax League club which doesn’t have a Sunday side to borrow players not used earlier in the weekend.

Rastrick will host the Rod Warhurst Cup final on a date to be decided with Queensbury the reserve venue.

Sunday Section business will now be dealt with at the main Halifax League meetings with Sunday secretary Gordon Ackroyd informing Sunday sides of relevant matters.

It is anticipated that there will be only three Sunday Section meetings a year - a pre-season one for captains, a meeting to discuss potential rule changes and an AGM in November.
