Brodettes revel in Twickenham honour

The Brodettes under 13s enjoyed a day to remember after playing in a curtain-raiser, and forming a guard of honour, at England’s intertnational clash with Samoa at Twickenham on Saturday.

After a four hour coach journey to the capital the excited youngsters met the England Women’s Squad for autographs and a chat.

The girls then rehearsed for the guard of honour which was smoothly done and only needed one run through.

Many of the girls admitted that it was very emotional and that they had goose bumps when the anthems were being played.

The Brodettes A team comprising Lucy Coldwell, Lily Culf, Rebecca Udall, Sophie Andrews, Elissa Neill, Jai Gomersall and Emily Akerman beat Horden 10-1 while the B team of Maisie Burton, Maddi Akroyd Helliwell, Caitlin Radley, Millie Hiley, Emma Copeland and Alice Akerman beat Horden 6-2.

The girls had the best day ever and then seeing themselves on TV from the highlights of the game put the icing on the cake.

Brods chairman Richard Turner enjoyed the occasion, adding: “I have got to say it was one of the proudest days I have enjoyed as chair of the Brods.

“The girls were a credit to the club and the whole day was organised so well without any hitches.”

England won the game 28-9.
