Organisers say the cold weather means that there are not enough dock leaves to run the competition on April 15 but are hopeful for a triumphant return in 2019.

They posted on the championships’ Facebook page: “Massive apologies but, due to the never ending cold spell, there are no docks so we are having to cancel the championship for 2018. The organisers are all gutted as this is a fantastic local event but, unfortunately, the weather is against us. We’d like to thank all the stall holders for their interest and apologies again. Team Dock.”
