U3A stands for University of the Third Age so sometimes people are a bit surprised to find that the likes of Scrabble and Sport are on the curriculum.
But once we’ve studied our philosophy and brushed up on our Magna Carta we need to relax just like (slightly) more youthful students.
The Table Tennis and Badminton group is a lively, sociable bunch.
They play for two hours every week in term time, with 20 plus regular attenders.
Most have returned to the sports after long periods of non-participation and are now reaping the benefits of more exercise.
It’s amazing how athletic ping-pong can be!
Some players have renewed school friendships; others have made new friends and social contacts.
Everyone’s improved their skills, badminton players being particularly vocal during matches!
The group’s so popular that there’s a waiting list to join at the moment.
You can find more details about U3A groups on the website u3atod.org.uk.
Or ask at a general meeting (third Thursday of every month).
