On Thursday, April 30, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, Kate Moreton-Deakin will put her best feet forward to undertake a 30-mile lone walk in one day to raise much needed funds for the Women’s Centre serving Calderdale and Kirklees.

This year the Women’s Centre for Calderdale and Kirklees - WomenCentre - will celebrate 30 years of providing support to over 100,000 of some of the most vulnerable women across the boroughs and their families.

Kate said: “This walk is something of a metaphor for the life journey undertaken by many women. I don’t feel very well prepared, but the women supported by the centre are not always well prepared to tackle crisis in their lives.

“I am fortunate in having my family to support me along the route and WomenCentre will provide a much-needed rest and a chance to put my feet up at the half way stage. I will arrive at a comfortable and safe point when I eventually fall into bed that night.

“This reflects the journey so many women have taken over the years. They can feel very lonely and isolated, needing intermittent help and support along the way. WomenCentre will often be their half way point, supporting them on the upward journey to a safe and warm place in their lives.”

Kate will walk along the canal from her home in Todmorden to the Women’s Centre building in Halifax. She anticipates starting around 6am. Anybody wanting to donate to WomenCentre can do so through Kate’s Local Giving page at https://localgiving.com/katemoretondeakin-womenscentre or directly to the centre at 23, Silver Street, Halifax.Follow Kate’s journey through twitter @WomenCentreCK
