The Met Office weather warning issued this morning (Tuesday) remains in place as the expected rain has started to fall.
The yellow “be aware” warning for Yorkshire and the Humber is valid until 7.30pm and residents are warned that heavy showers could lead to surface water flooding.
There are currently no active flood warnings from the Environment Agency.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Slow-moving heavy showers, with thunder in places, are likely to develop today across the eastern half of the UK.
“The public should be aware of possible surface water flooding, although, as is often the case in such situations, many places will escape the heaviest downpours.”
Police have warned motorists to take care as surface water starts to build up.
