VIDEO: Hundreds of students compete in regional sports competition in Halifax

Hundreds of sporty pupils from across West Yorkshire are taking part in an annual athletics regional competition in Halifax today (Wednesday).

The 2015 West Yorkshire Sainsbury’s School Games, which is supported by Johnston Press Yorkshire, provides young people from Calderdale, Bradford, Wakefield, Leeds and Kirklees the chance to compete against each other in events including long jump, sprinting and other sports.

The challenge, which is being held at the North Bridge Leisure Centre, saw more than 300 secondary school students involved.

Six further events are to be held in the upcoming weeks across the county.

- Tomorrow (Thursday), a primary school event will be held at North Bridge Leisure Centre

- A badminton competition will start on March 6 at Garforth Leisure Centre, Leeds

- Students will compete in a trampolining event on March 13 at the John Smeaton Leisure Centre, Leeds

- A Panathlon event will be held on March 13 at the North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax

- Winter and summer games will commence at Leeds Beckett University on March 25 and July 7
