The incident happened at 9.03pm yesterday (Tuesday) on the westbound carriageway of the M62 between junction 26 (Chain Bar) and junction 25 (Brighouse).

The driver of a Vaxhall Zafira, a 37-year-old Bradford man, left the entry slip road of the Hartshead Moor Services in the eastbound direction on to the westbound carriageway and collided with a Ford Kuga and an Audi A1.

Debris from the crash then damaged two other vehicles also travelling westbound - a Mini Cooper and an Audi A5.

The driver of the Audi A1, a 40-year-old woman from Holmfirth, had to be cut out of her car by firefighters from Brighouse, Cleckheaton and Odsal. Because of the damage suffered to the car, it took 45 minutes to free the woman.

Having suffered serious injuries, she was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance, along with driver of the Vauxhall. They are both in a stable condition.

The drivers of the other vehicles suffered either minor or no injuries at all.
