Update: Witness appeal following Southowram accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 81-year-old man involved in an accident in Southowram died.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Brookfoot Lane, Southowram, at the junction of Cow Lane at 8.35am on Saturday.

The collision involved a Range Rover Sport and a Nissan Note.

The elderly driver of the Nissan Note was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he later died. The driver of the black Range Rover Sport suffered facial injuries in the collision.

Police officers had to close the road for over five hours as fire crews from Brighouse and Elland attended.

Investigations are being carried out as to the cause of death of the driver of the Nissan Note and police are asking for anyone who saw the collision to contact the non-emergency number 101.

A post mortem to establish the cause of the man’s death will be carried out tomorrow (Tuesday).
