Halifax residents welcome patrols to stop cars flying on street 'like aeroplanes'

Residents in Halifax welcomed police speed patrols to combat motorists breaking the legal limit

On Monday January 25 officers from the Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted speed checks on Springhall Lane and Gibbet Street, Halifax

The patrols were onducted following reports from residents of speeding cars.

On Springhall Lane 96 cars were checked and on Gibbet Street 123. Those who were exceeding the limit for the road were greeted with a frown from the SID and those travelling within the limit a smile.

A spokesperson for the NPT said: "Some of the residents came out to have a look at the SID (Speed Indication Device) in action and offered warm drinks! One passer by stopped to thank the officers for stopping the cars “flying on here like aeroplanes”

"The aim of this and other operations in Park Ward is to raise driver awareness of the speed limits in the area and gather information to pass on to the Road Safety Partnership and local traffic police for enforcement"
