Calderdale drivers hit with fines for using Exley Lane as illegal 'short cut'

Drivers have been hit with fines after using an access only road in Calderdal as an illegal short cut.

Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Officers attended Exley Lane on July 22 to carry out enforcement at the Access to Exley only signage.

A total of 27 drivers received a fixed penalty notice for contravening a local traffic order and one driver was reported for having no insurance.

A spokesperson for Halifax NPT said: "Unless you have legitimate access to the location it is an offence to use the route as a ‘short cut’."

"Officers attended after numerous complaints received.

"We are aware of other locations with the same issue and will attend in due course to conduct further enforcement.

"Having previously attended and advised drivers this does not appear to work as a number of the people receiving tickets had previously been spoken with."
