To mark its third anniversary, Todmorden Family History Group is currently holding an exhibition in Todmorden Library (runs until November 22).
Over the past three years around 30 people have attended monthly sessions taking place every first Wednesday of the month from 1pm to 4pm at Todmorden Library. Of these only a handful originate from Todmorden, which means members are searching their family histories all over Britain, Canada, Australia, Bermuda… and more.
Among the amazing backgrounds that have been unearthed is group founder Jan Bridget’s discovery that her great great great great grandfather Richard Sutton could have been the role model for Emily Bronte’s Heathcliff.
Another found that their great, great, great grand uncle was a joiner, auctioneer and town crier in Todmorden in the early 1800s.
The exhibition was opened by Coun Tony Greenwood, Mayor of Todmorden.
