Stolen tumble dryers could be dangerous if used

The appliances were stolen from a parked up arctic lorry on George Street, which had its side curtain cut overnight between 7pm on Monday December 14 and 6.35am on Tuesday December 15 as the driver was asleep.

The 22 Indesit appliances had been re-called by the manufacturer and are not fit to be used by consumers.

Police Sergeant Darren Bedford from the Valley’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said; “I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area overnight on Monday, or in the early hours of Tuesday morning and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

“I would also ask that anyone who has been invited to buy an Indesit tumble dryer, or who has seen them advertised for sale locally, or online to speak to the police. These items had been recalled due to fault publicised last month by the manufacturer which could potentially see the appliance be very dangerous in the home. Enquiries are ongoing.”
