Rescue on the way for trapped - but relaxed, fed and watered - deer

People are being asked to stop calling Todmorden Police and the RSPCA about a deer which is marooned after jumping over a wall onto land bordered by the end of the town’s famous Great Wall and the waters of the Rochdale Canal.

PCSO Elayne Wright said the RSPCA had been alerted to the situation several days ago and will be moving the deer after tranquilising it, using a hoist, at some point as yet unspecified but soon. It was being fed and watered and is relaxed enough, RSPCA officers had told her.

“We are aware of the situation and the RSPCA are monitoring it, hoping it would swim off. It has been relaxed enough but they do need to get it out,” she said.
