Please, spare our toys from tax, says Anna
A GIRL who wrote to the Prime Minister asking for the tax to be taken off children’s toys is considering forming a protest group after her request was turned down.
Anna Carnochan, 10, wrote to David Cameron last July asking that the tax on toys, as well as sweets and chocolates, be abolished. She received a letter in response but was unhappy that Mr Cameron dodged her question, so wrote a second letter demanding he answer her properly.
Her plight seemed to have come to an end when she received a second letter, this time from HM Tresury, explaining that while food and children’s clothes were zero VAT rated, there was no possibility of removing it from toys.
“I was disappointed when it said they can’t change it at all,”said Anna, a pupil at Scout Road Primary School in Mytholmroyd, who is now thinking of planning a protest to get children’s voices heard.
“I don’t exactly know where to do the protest so I might nag Mr Cameron at first and then get as many of my friends to join in. If I do a protest I’ll probably do leaflets and put them in letterboxes,” she added.
