Young children suffer smoke inhalation during Calderdale house blaze

Two young children and a woman suffered smoke inhalation during a Calderdale house fire at the weekend.

Fire crews were initially called to Elland on Sunday at 6.11pm to reports of smoke in the property.

As fire crews from Rastrick, Halifax and Huddersfield arrived they discovered that a woman and two children were in the property in Brooksbank Gardens.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a pan of oil had been left on the cooker.

"One adult female and two young children suffered smoke inhalation," said the spokesperson. "Oxygen therapy was administered by fire service personnel and the woman and children were left in hands of paramedics.

"Smoke detection was installed and working."
