With just five weeks to go before Christmas, Rotary’s local community shoebox appeal, with flat-pack funding by the CFFC, is gathering momentum.

During the last week four more educational establishments have asked if their students could join in the appeal.

They are St Chad’s Primary, Dean Field Primary, Calder Learning Trust and Trinity Sixth Form College.

On behalf of the later, Ruth Peel said: “Opening our doors in 2020 in the centre of Halifax has been a fantastic and rewarding experience. Our pupils are very keen to establish links with local charities and businesses to support and develop our local community.”

The college has a pupil leadership team established, tasked with filling up to 100 boxes over the next fortnight. Good luck to the team who are enthusiastic that their fellow students are intending to support the appeal.

As we reported last week, besides filling a box readers are now able to support by making an on-line donation by typing into a search engine www.justgiving.com/campaign/rotaryshoeboxappeal2020.

Other unique ways of support have been reported to Rotarian Bryan Harkness. Firstly, students at Crossley Heath in their next non-uniform day are using the fundraising day to support the above.

One well known Halifax employer’s weekly in-house Saturday lottery winner has donating his ‘winnings’.

And finally two readers who, rather than sending out Christmas cards, have donated the usual cost by logging on to the campaign link above and gifting.

“Other readers might like to consider doing the same,” suggested Rotarian Bryan.

If any reader has other different or unique ideas, then they are asked to please contact Bryan on 07770 471698. With Harveys Cookshop no longer an outlet because of the lockdown, a replacement outlet in the town can be announced and that is Sainsbury’s main supermarket in Halifax.

Flat-packs can be collected from their customer services desk and returned there or to any of the other outlets.

Let us remind you who they are - Tesco stores in Sowerby Bridge and at King Cross, and Marsh & Marsh Properties at Lightcliffe.

So readers, the Rotary Shoebox Appeal really does need all our support as we are informed many charities and good causes have already submitted significant requests through to Rotary.

And with really less than a month to go in fundraising activities, now is the time to provide support.
