Steven nominated for county’s top accolade

A Brighouse gallery owner has spoken of his pride and surprise after being nominated as one of the greatest Yorkshiremen.

Steven Lord, of Harrison Lord Gallery, has made the shortlist in the BBC Radio Leeds poll in recognition of what he, in conjunction with Brighouse Business Initiative, has done to promote the town.

He is in esteemed company, with other nominees including Geoffrey Boycott, Seb Coe, David Hockney, Michael Palin and Welcome to Yorkshire’s Gary Verity.

Steven, who heard the news while driving to work, said: “I was on my way to work and my phone rang. I stopped and listened to the message which said I had just been nominated for the Greatest Living Yorkshireman Award.

“I thought it was a wind-up, but then somebody else rang to tell me about it.”

After listening to the show on BBC Iplayer, Steven heard a man called Pete from Cleckheaton had put him forward for the accolade.

“I feel incredibly proud to be in such elevated company,” Steven said.

“It’s nice that people appreciate what we do for Brighouse.”
