The award is the highest given by the worldwide organization and is usually awarded to Rotarians and for it to be given to non-Rotarians is very unusual, even more so with a double presentation.

The citation is for demonstrating significant support to the Rotary cause. It was awarded to both Nigel and Susan for their tremendous support in allowing the Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge to use its considerable premises at The Wharf for its Classic Bike and Scooter Show for the six years from 2014-2019.

The presentation was made by the Club’s retiring President, Anne Sutcliffe, and also in attendance was Hazel Brindle, Assistant District Governor, plus members of the Club.

Both Nigel and Susan expressed their surprise and delight at receiving their medals and certificates and were taken aback when it was pointed out that this international award was rarely awarded to non-Rotarians.
