The Cricket Asylum, on the top floor of the old Asquith Bottom Mill in Sowerby Bridge, is an indoor state of the art cricket facility and coaching provider.

Their charity, The Cricket Asylum Foundation, works to make a positive difference to the lives, health and mental wellbeing of disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals through cricket and related sporting activities.

The Foundation provides opportunities to those who would not otherwise be able to access cricket, providing cricket related scholarships to individuals, bringing cricket to areas when young people may not have easy access to a cricket club and working with schools, youth services, young carers, and organisations where individuals need support and input.

From midday on February 20 to midday on February 21, the passion for cricket and the work done by The Cricket Asylum Foundation was on full display with over 120 participants of all ages contributing during the 24 hour event.

This included 20 committed cricket enthusiasts who braved the full 24 hours enduring the “graveyard shift” in the early hours of the morning, battling away until reinforcements arrived in the morning.

There was a terrific atmosphere and feeling of community with different groups of players who would not normally share a net coming together, and the younger players gaining a lot of valuable coaching from the older players.

The Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to their sponsors, business partners and the local community who provided food, baked goods and donated raffle prizes and also ITV’s Calendar team who filmed part of the event and interviewed some of the participants.

They are immensely grateful to everyone who donated their hard money, which will allow the Cricket Asylum Foundation to continue to make a positive impact in the community.
