Overgate Hospice's Light up a Life services in Calderdale

The Light up a Life appeal invites people to dedicate a light to those that cannot be with them over the festive period.

The emotional services involve lighting a candle in remembrance of a loved one and allow the community to come together to talk about their loss.

There are three more services in Calderdale, two at Overgate Hospice in Elland and for the first time there will be a service at Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

The Elland services take place on Sunday (December 4) and Thursday December 15 while the Hebden Bridge Service will be held next Wednesday at the Waterfront Hall

Community Fundraiser Claire Howard said: “Light up a Life services are always such beautiful events; very emotional but comforting.

“It is important to us that our services reach those living in the upper valley of Calderdale and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible at Hebden Bridge this year.”

At the Hebden Bridge service, visitors will be welcomed by Overgate Chaplain Tina Turner outside the Waterfront Hall to sing carols, hear touching readings from Overgate’s Trustees and volunteers, and light candles in remembrance.

Following the service there will be re freshments and stalls to raise money for the Hospice.

All dedications received will appear in the Overgate Book of Memories which will be on display at each service.
