LETTERS: Thank you to our ‘magnificent’ community

I’d like to, on behalf of my sister-in-law Gemma Leedham. thank all our family, friends, staff, staff’s families and even that family’s neighbours for their help over the weekend.

Gemma owns the Something Sweet shop on Bridgegate. We had so many offers of help that we had to turn them down. I saw something that must have been akin to the spirit of the London Blitz.
The town hall was fantastic. Without the endless supplies of cleaning materials people would simply have run out. All the shops on Bridgegate were all helping out in every way possible. Hot water, packing cases, bags, even real ale was all given freely.

The Co-op was coming around with endless bags of supplies. There were families driving around giving out cleaning materials that they’d brought from their own homes. 
Living in Halifax we had dry homes to go to. I saw the destruction in Mythholmroyd and Hebden. My heart goes out to the residents of these towns. 
I saw a lot of tired bodies and a few tears today in Hebden. 
I’d like to shake the hands of everyone but that’s not possible. So to Hebden, collectively, thank you.

Well done and please give yourself a massive pat on the back. You are magnificent. I wish everyone a dry and prosperous New Year.
