Oh yez, oh yez! Criers shout up for Halifax

Woolshops Shopping Centre will host its second town crier competition tomorrow alongside Halifax town crier, Les Cutts.

Criers from across the UK will compete to be crowned Woolshops Champion Town Crier 2016.

The criers will participate in two rounds and will be judged on several characteristics such as confidence and volume.

Samantha Crowden, Deputy Centre Manager said: “The day promises to be exciting with folk dancers, street food, a vintage pop up café as well as the Town Crier competition.”

Judges of the competition include Paul Blakey MBE and Chris Clifford, former CSO at Woolshops.

Mr Cutts, Town Crier for Halifax said: “We recieved such a fantastic response last year and I am delighted to be heading to Woolshops to host the second competition.”

Mr Cutts has been the Halifax Town Crier since 2001. He also holds the titles of Bellman of the Borough of Calderdale, is the crier to the Town Council of Hebden Royd and is the North Eastern representative of the Loyal Company of Town Crier’s.

The competition will be held from 11am to 3pm.
