Man arrested after drugs and pick axe handle found in vehicle involved in collision in Shelf

Police were called shortly after 7pm last night (Sunday) to reports of a three vehicle collision at the junction of Cooper Lane and Carr House Road.

The man was arrested a short time later in the vicinity of the collision.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been released under investigation.

The incident is the latest in a long line of collisions at the roundabout, which is the subject of a petition for urgent safety measures to be installed.

The roundabout has been plagued with collisions and near misses since it was installed more than 10 years ago. Calderdale Council’s Highways Department is undertaking a review of the road layout.
