Lottery boost for parent group

The Woodhouse Lane Play Area group has received £10,000 from the fund and is one of 80 community projects across Yorkshire and the Humber region to be given support.

The organisation will use the grant to install a Roktagon -a three dimensional climbing structure, created by Rokt Climbing Gym in Brighouse - with the aim of enabling children to enjoy stimulating play.

A grand total of £4.3million will be spent in the county with many of the awards, announced the day before International Youth Day, supporting young people.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund, England Grant-making Director said: “The valuable work of these leading charities and community groups is helping make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”

The group of parents banded together in March with the goal of improving the play area which was in need of a major uplift.

A spokesperson from the group said: “We now have a group of people who believe it is time to regenerate this humble park and transform it into something much better. There are people who once played in this park as children, want to give their own children an enhanced experience.

“Together we can bring back the fun to the park.”

The group will be holding am ‘All About Olly’ tribute act night October 9 at Rastrick Bowling Club.

Other Calderdale projects who have been given a grant from the Big Lottery fund include Mixenden Parents Resource Centre in Halifax who were given £363,325 to build on its existing project in supporting local residents and their families.

Halifax Hammers FC also received £7,450 to deliver dance, music and healthy mind and body workshops for local young people.
