A quick-thinking Halloween have-a-go hero has been presented with a commendation from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for his actions.
In October, John Maden Howard tackled a house blaze sparked by a pumpkin lantern - dressed as Frankenstein’s monster.
Mr Maden Howard and his wife Carolyn were travelling along Cragg Road, Cragg Vale, to a Halloween fancy dress party, when they spotted the flames through a window.
Dressed in full costume, Mr Maden Howard quickly made his way into the property to fight the fire.
Two teenagers who were in the property were completely unaware of the blaze as he raised the alarm.
Speaking at the time, Tom Marr, crew commander at Mytholmroyd Fire Station, said: “It was brave of him to be so quick thinking.
“He prevented what could have been a very serious house fire.”
