Brighouse Charity Gala, which is held every year in Wellholme Park on the last Saturday in June, will reach its 50th birthday in 2015, and organisers are looking to make it the biggest and best event to date.

But to do that, the gala committee is looking for new members to join the group and assist with preparations for next year’s showcase.

Peter Edwards, ground chairman, said: “There are only 12 of us at the moment, so we need some more help.

“And we are all getting older, so we need some new people to come on board.”

In addition to pre-event tasks, the committee also needs assistance on the gala day itself, such as marshalling the parade route through the town and setting up the gala field on Wellholme Park.

Brighouse Charity Gala regularly attracts tens of thousands of visitors who flock to the park to enjoy a family day out. Money raised on the day is distributed to various local charities. Anybody who would like to volunteer to help on the gala committee is asked to get in touch via the group’s website, www.brighousecharitygala.org.uk.

To mark the event’s golden anniversary in 2015, organisers are looking to invite every Brighouse Gala Queen from over the years to attend the special occasion.

Any former gala queens are asked to get in touch with organisers via the website mentioned above.
