The Wadsworth Community Centre at Billy Lane, Old Town, has been fortunate in securing a grant from Calderdale’s Staying Well Project.
The Project is aimed at combatting social isolation, and promoting improvements in quality of life, health and wellbeing of our local community, and so with these aims in mind, four new courses have been organised at the centre, said Derek Williamson of the organising team.
‘Art and Craft’ started last on Monday, June 1, with an initial five week run from 1.30 to 3pm. The course costs £30 for five sessions, including refreshments.
Today, Thursday, June 4, from 9.30am to 10.30am there is a Pilates class, offering a functional and clinical approach to exercise. This class will be £5 per session, with mats provided if you don’t have your own.
Later in June the community centre will have a cookery course, running for an initial six weeks from Friday, June 19, from 4pm to 6pm, at £3 per session.
Finally, starting on Sunday, June 21, with an initial six week run, there are gardening classes being organised, from 10am to noon, again at £3 per session.
All the courses and classes are open to all age groups, and beginners are just as welcome as those with experience.
For more detail on any or all the new courses, see the posters in Old Town Post Office, outside the community centre itself, or take a look online at the www.wadsworthcommunity.co.uk website.
