Floods latest - pupils lend a helping hand

Kind-hearted pupils joined together to raise money for those affected by the devastating floods which swept through Calderdale over Christmas.

From non-uniform days and bake sales to a huge map of Calderdale filled with coins, children went above and beyond to do their bit.

Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College held a dress down day and managed to raise £680 for flood-hit schools.

St John’s Primary Academy in Clifton also held a non-uniform day and a cake stall.

Plenty of sweet treats were on offer, including a fantastic cake depicting a fireman walking through flood water next to a collapsed Elland Bridge.

The school’s effort raised a fantastic £120.60 which will now be donated to flood affected schools in Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd. Calder High School students in Mytholmroyd also held a cake sale to raise funds.

St Andrew’s Infant School, Brighouse, took part in the non-uniform day for flood-hit schools and raised £235.87.

Bailiffe Bridge Junior and Infant School collected £216.20 and Woodhouse Primary School, Brighouse, filled a huge map of Calderdale with coins and managed to raise £846. This money will now be donated to the Calderdale Flood Relief Appeal.

Bowling Green Primary School, Stainland, proposed the non-uniform day to help flood-hit schools. The idea soon spread across Calderdale and a massive £6,300 has now been raised.
