Flood alert issued for River Calder

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the River Calder from Todmorden to Brighouse.

A spokesperson said: “Rivers are responding to the persistent rainfall. We are currently expecting a further band of heavy showers later today, with river levels rising again.

“It is possible that flood warnings could be issued for some locations, depending on how many of the heavy showers hit the Upper Calder catchment.

“We are monitoring the situation from the Leeds incident room and have Ops staff currently out on site.

“Please be aware that we are currently using lower trigger levels for our flood warnings in parts of upper Calderdale. This is to account for damage to walls and banks next to the river caused by the flooding event of December 26 to 28, 2015

“Where possible, we will send our staff to the relevant sites to assess whether we need to issue flood warnings at a lower level.”
