Fire destroys kitchen in Southowram

A fire ripped through a kitchen totally destroying the room and causing smoke damage to the rest of the house.

Fire crews from Halifax and Brighouse attended the incident this morning at Fairfax Crescent, Southowram.

The male owner of the house escaped as the crews dealt with the blaze at 1.22am.

He was treated for smoke inhalation by the firefighters.

It is not known how the fire started.

Halifax crews had earlier attended a car fire on Queens Road, Halifax.

Firefighters attended the incident just before 1am and extinguished the blaze.

The car was destroyed.
