It’s your last chance to get behind the two Calderdale contenders in this year’s Great British High Street competition.

Market Street, Hebden Bridge, is nominated in the Small Market Town category and Heart Gallery, also in Hebden Bridge, is in the Best GB Twitter Shop category.

The Great British High Street Competition celebrates the work being done to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets.

It’s one of a number of initiatives to help champion high streets as the cornerstones of the community.

Eileen Kelly, secretary of the Hebden Bridge Business Forum, the organisation behind the town’s nomination for the award, is urging people to vote.

She said: “We’ve always known that Market Street is one of Britain’s best high streets, but now that this has been recognised nationally, it’s a great boost for the town.

“Hebden Bridge’s recovery from the floods and the amazing resilience shown was an inspiring story and obviously impressed the judges.

“If we win, the publicity for the town will be enormous. The support of the public at this point is vital, as the number of votes cast makes up 50 per cent of the judging process.”

Heart Gallery’s category recognises it as one of Britain’s top three independent shops using social media to promote the high street.

Owner Alison Bartram said: “I feel so blessed to have been shortlisted for this new award Best GB Twitter Shop. As a small business owner, running a successful gallery, I have to wear many hats on a daily basis.

“The social media hat is one of my favourites and it plays such an important role.

“Small independent shops like myself don’t have budgets for advertising so this is one of the most effective ways of reaching our audience and it’s fun too.”

The winners will get share of prize pot worth £100,000, expert training from Google’s digital taskforce for shops, bars and restaurants and a trip to Twitter UK’s London office to further boost their social media skills.
